Manisha Ramadass on Monday bagged bronze at the ongoing Paralympics as she defeated Denmark's Catherine Rosengren in the third place play-off match of the women's singles SU5 badminton event. (Full Coverage | More Sports News)pogo88

Manisha, the second seed, finished the match in just 25 minutes, notching up a dominating 21-12,21-8 victory against her third-seeded Danish opponent.

With the bronze medal, Manisha becomes the first Indian female shuttler to earn a Paralympics medal. Minutes after Manisha's win, Thulasimathi Murugesan lost the gold medal match to settle for silver in the same category.

"I am feeling very happy. No words to explain my happiness, on cloud nine," Manisha said after her win. "I was really disappointed yesterday (after semifinal loss). It was very close... I was not able to come out of it. I was angry at myself for making some silly errors yesterday so i just showed my anger today."

"Yesterday it was not my day. So i just did not want to repeat the error again."

Manisha said that bronze was not enough for her and she will work hard to change the colour of the medal at the next Paralympics.

"This is not enough for me... I will be working harder for the next four years to change the colour of the medal."

Born with Erb’s Palsy, Manisha competes in the SU5 classification where athletes with impairment of the upper limbs participate.

Earlier todaypogo88, Nitesh Kumar had won the final of the men's singles SL3 class to bring the first badminton gold at the Paris Paralympics.
